Lee County, Fla., commissioners today voted 3-1 to approve “a deal with the Twins that calls for” $47M in upgrades at the team’s Spring Training facilities in Ft. Myers. The upgrades include expanding Hammond Stadium's seating capacity from 8,000 to 9,300 and building “an on-site dormitory with 55 rooms for players and staff.” The deal includes a new 30-year lease for the ballpark. The Twins will pay $13.8M towards the project, which will be completed in '15, at which point the team’s rent will increase from $300,000 to $500,000 per year (
