MLB Draws Highest Attendance For Pre-Memorial Day Weekend

MLB said today it drew 1.65 million in total attendance for the 45 games played May 18-20, its highest attendance for any weekend prior to Memorial Day in league history. It was also the largest attendance for any MLB weekend since a 46-game slate on July 24-26, 2009. Saturday drew 576,209 fans and marked the largest 15-game day of attendance prior to Memorial Day since Opening Day '07, and the largest attendance for a day with 15 MLB games since Aug. 14, 2010. MLB's attendance is up 6.7% thus far this season compared to the same point in '11 with an average draw of 30,207, a substantial base to have before the peak-selling summer months arrive. The three-game Orioles-Nationals series at Nationals Park drew 120,929, the largest combined attendance for any series in the seven-year history of the rivalry since the Expos' relocation to DC.
