TODAY’S ARTICLES OF INTEREST

The N.Y. TIMES’ StuartElliott writes of the advertising on Athens Olympics coverage, “There wereentertaining commercials among the more than $1[B] worth of spots that ran fromAug. 13 through last night. But it is difficultto recall them in the aftermath of the exhausting, hucksterish din. … Notonly were most of the commercials for the Chevrolet division of the GeneralMotors Corporation delightful, but there were enough of them to offer varietyamid the repetition. … There were scores of commercials from Olympic sponsorsand suppliers who sought to wrap themselves around the rings, but none soclever as those from the DHL delivery service owned by the Deutsche Post” (N.Y. TIMES).

The ORLANDO SENTINEL’s RickMaese writes of the Summer Olympics, “The television ratings still aren't whatthey were just eight years ago, and those who have tuned in have seen a sea ofempty seats. … Overallinterest is in question and Olympic officials are all scrambling for ananswer: Are the Summer Games still relevant?” (ORLANDO SENTINEL).
