CUBS FILE PLANS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF WRIGLEY FIELD CAMPUS

TheCubs today filed with the City of Chicago a plan to develop the Wrigley Fieldcampus.  The proposal includes amulti-purpose building on Clark Street, an open-air pedestrian walkwayimmediately west of the ballpark and a themed restaurant, among otherthings.  The filing also incorporates theclub’s request to renovate and expand the Wrigley Field bleachers (Cubs).  Cubs VP/Community Affairs Mike Lufranosaid even if all the outstanding issues are settled by the end of the year,“Chances are we would not begin construction until after the 2005 season at theearliest” (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com,6/18).


THOMSON S.A. FINALIZES FIVE-YEAR EXTENSION OF RCA NAMING RIGHTS

RCA parent ThomsonS.A. today finalized a five-year, $6.5M extension with the city of Indianapolisfor naming rights to the RCA Dome through ‘09. Thomson VP/Consumer Marketing & Worldwide Advertising Tom Wardropsaid the deal calls for the company to pay the city $1.3M annually.  The extension is the first of two suchoptions held by the company. The French company in January made its finalpayment under the original naming-rights deal, which paid the city $10M overten years. City officials did not return calls for comment by press time.


WTA UNVEILS EXTENSION OF“GET IN TOUCH” MARKETING CAMPAIGN

TheWTA Tour today unveiled an extension of its “Get In Touch With Your FeminineSide” marketing campaign.  The campaignwill include taglines such as “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” “No Man’s Land,”“They May Not Cook, But They Sure Can Serve,” “Sure, They Do Dishes.  Big Crystal Ones” and “A Woman’s Gotta DoWhat A Woman’s Gotta Do,” accompanied by action shots of Venus and SerenaWilliams, Jennifer Capriati, Justine Henin-Hardenne, KimClijsters, Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova.  Print ads and billboards will runworldwide.  In addition, there will bestreet-marketing events at various tournaments, including Wimbledon (WTATour).


YAHOO AND HP PLAN AMBUSH AROUND U.S. OPEN AT SHINNECOCK

The104th U.S. Open concludes this weekend at Shinnecock Hills Golf Clubin Southampton, NY, and BRANDWEEK reports that Yahoo and Hewlett-Packard arepartnering Saturday and Sunday to “promote HP’s photo equipment and the Yahoo!Finance portal, while dangling a chance to win a Hummer H2” and an HP digitalcamera at Southampton Driving Range, near Shinnecock Hills.  Contestants can “hit a free bucket of ballsand attempt to register a hole in one. If more than one person aces the hole, a sweepstakes will be held.”  The promo will be supported by a billboardtruck and parking lot flyers (BRANDWEEK,6/14 issue).


SPECIAL PAINT SCHEMES ON TAPFOR NASCAR RACES THIS WEEKEND

TheEvernham Motorsports No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge driven by Kasey Kahne will feature a specialMountain Dew paint scheme for Sunday’s NASCAR Nextel Cup Series DHL 400 atMichigan Int’l Speedway.  Additionally,Evernham’s No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge driven by Jeremy Mayfield will feature the paint scheme for the November 14Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.  Thismarks the fourth consecutive year Mountain Dew has sponsored an Evernham entry(Evernham).

Meanwhile,the Race Kentucky Motorsports No. 65 Chevy driven by Stuart Kirby will feature a Churchill Downs paint scheme forSaturday’s Busch Series Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, KY (RaceKentucky Motorsports).

Also,Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals will serve as the primary sponsor for StantonBarrett Motorsports’ two entries in the Meijer 300.   Berkeley’s Rogisen brand will sponsor theNo. 97 Chevy driven by Stanton Barrett, while the company’s Altovisbrand will sponsor the No. 91 Chevy driven by Shawna Robinson.  Also, Berkeley’s Enzyte brand is the primarysponsor of Holigan Racing’s No. 50 Chevy driven by Regan Smith (BerkeleyPremium Nutraceuticals).

Thisweekend’s three-game Red Sox-Giants series “is the toughest regular-seasonticket in the four-year history” of SBC Park (S.F. CHRONICHLE, 6/18).  This weekend’s three-game Yankees-Dodgersseries at Dodger Stadium is sold out (USA TODAY, 6/18).

TheMLL Baltimore Bayhawks have signed a sponsorship deal for the remainder of the’04 season with nutritional supplement manufacturer Nutramax Laboratories (Bayhawks).
