U.S. RATING FOR NBA ALL-STAR GAME DOWN 23% COMPARED TO ‘03

TNT’s telecast of Sundaynight’s NBA All-Star Game drew a final 5.1 U.S. HH rating and delivered5,525,000 HHs from 9:00-11:30pm ET.  Thegame’s 8.2 million viewers make it the second-most watched basketball game incable history, behind last year’s All-Star Game.  The 5.1 rating is down 23% from last year’s 6.6 U.S. HH rating.  The 5,525,000 HHs is down 22% from lastyear’s 7,092,000 HHs (THE DAILY).


NHL TODAY LAUNCHES WEB SITE WITH CBA INFORMATION

TheNHL today launched a new Web site, NHLCBAnews.com,to provide the public with news and information about league economics andcollective bargaining.  The launchfollows the release of a study of league economics last Thursday by former SECChair Arthur Levitt (THE DAILY).


JETS TO PRODUCE AND SELL GAME ADS FOR RADIO BROADCASTS

TheJets today announced the formation of a radio broadcast partnership with ESPN1050 and WABC-AM.  As part of theagreement, the Jets will produce and sell game advertising through a jointventure between the Jets sales and marketing staff and the ESPN 1050 salesstaff.  The Jets will also select gameannouncers for the broadcasts.  The dealencompasses the next five seasons (Jets).


NEW ERA TO SELL GUEST-DESIGNED CAPS AS PART OF 59FIFTY@50

NewEra today announced the launch of its 59FIFTY@50 campaign marking the 50thanniversary of its signature cap, the 59FIFTY. Among the elements of the campaign is “Capture the Flag,” under whichguest designers such as filmmaker Spike Lee, deejay Bobbito Garcia,Astros P Roger Clemens, rapper Dizzee Rascal, snowboarder TrevorAndrew and actor Danny Masterson will design hats to be sold inlimited edition quantities throughout the world.  The campaign will be supported with print ads, a micro Web site -www.59FIFTYat50.com, POP and speciallabeling, marking and packaging.  Burlington, VT-based Jager Dipaola Kempdeveloped the campaign creatives (New Era).

ESPN today announced that ESPN2 will televise the firstregular-season game of the ‘04 MLB season, Yankees-Devil Rays, live fromJapan.  The game will air Tuesday, March30, at 5:00am ET (ESPN).

TheAP reports that Red Sox Owner John Henrysaid in an e-mail response toreporters today that he is “changing his mind on whether the sport needs asalary cap.”  Henry: “Baseball doesn’thave an answer for the Yankees.  Revenuesharing can only accomplish so much” (AP, 2/18).

RoushRacing today announced that Pennzoil will serve as the primary sponsor for theNo. 99 Ford driven by Jeff Burton during the March 7 NASCAR NextelSeries Cup UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Roush Racing).

Atlanta-basedFirstwave Technologies today announced that the All England Lawn & TennisClub has selected Firstwave to provide its sports-specific CRM solution for useat Wimbledon.  The technology will initiallybe deployed to handle player registration for the ’04 tournament (FirstwaveTechnologies).

TheAP reports that members of an elite Greek Navy unit held a security drill todayto “prepare for the upcoming Olympics, the first exercise involving militarytroops.  Unlike previous drillsinvolving police forces, the military unit used live ammunition to createrealistic conditions” (AP,2/18).
