WITH LACK OF MARQUEE GAMES ON HORIZON, MORE FLEX SKED TALK

USATODAY's Rudy Martzke write that tonight's Eagles-Packers match up is "justone of two of the seven games remaining on 'Monday Night Football' thatqualify as worthy of the 'blockbuster' schedule ABC promoted in earlyApril."  Martzke adds, "The NFL should seriously consider a flexABC schedule for the final four games in the new contract — or not listingthose games by networks until four weeks before they are played — with alimitation of aiding ABC in two of the weeks" (USATODAY, 11/10).

TheWASHINGTON POST's Matt Bonesteel suggests, "The NFL could divide up theMonday night games between all the networks it deals with, but give the networkthe Super Bowl fewer games," allowing the league to wait to"determine Monday night games until two weeks or so ahead of time" (WASHINGTONPOST, 11/10).

"MNF"producer Fred Gaudelli, on a flexible schedule: "You'llsee it in the next contract.  The way the NFL is played and run today, youhave to have it.  There's no way to tell who's going to be good (several)months prior to when the season starts" (PHILADELPHIADAILY NEWS, 11/10).


NHL INKS THE HOME DEPOT CANADA AS CORPORATE PARTNER

TheNHL today officially announced a multiyear agreement with The Home DepotCanada, under which the company will become a corporate partner of the leaguein Canada in the home improvement category. The Home Depot Canada will continue as a major advertiser on the NHL onTSN, as well as on CBC’s “Hockey Night in Canada.”  The NHL also recently renewed agreements with three of itsCanadian partners: Mennen as the official deodorant; McDonald’s as the officialQSR; and Gillette-Duracell, expanding from the official battery to include theshaving and grooming categories (NHL).


PGA TOUR PLAYER OF THE YEAR TO BE ANNOUNCED LIVE ON ESPN

TheFLORIDA TIMES-UNION reported that the PGA Tour Player of the Year will beannounced on ESPN December 8 during the 6:00pm ET “SportsCenter,” the “firsttime the winner has been revealed on live [TV].”  ESPN has yet to decide on the format for the announcement, whichis likely to reveal Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, DavisLove III, Mike Weir or Kenny Perry as the 13thwinner of the Jack Nicklaus Trophy (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 11/8).


DRIVERS TODAY DEBUT NASCAR WEEK ON PYRAMID

Syndicatedgame show “Pyramid” today began airing NASCAR week with Jamie McMurrayvs. Kurt BuschMatt Kensethand Busch will square off Tuesday, followed by Tony Stewart vs. JeremyMayfield on Wednesday, McMurray-Kenseth on Thursday, andconcluding with Mayfield vs. Christian Fittipaldi.

TheGreg Norman Collection today announced the launch of a corporate sales divisionfor ’04, tabbing Awards.com VP/Sales David Capano as Dir of CorporateSales (Greg Norman Collection).

BUSINESSFIRST of LOUISVILLE reports that the KY Speedway has named Louisville-basedBisig Impact Group its ad agency of record in the Louisville and Lexingtonmarkets for the ’04 racing season. Bisig Communications handled the account for the speedway during theprevious three seasons (BIZJOURNALS.com,11/10).

NHRAtoday announced an agreement with Skoal Racing (NHRA).

TheFINANCIAL TIMES reports that in the “run-ups to the Olympic Games in Athensnext year adidas is ramping up its athletics credentials.  Next year the company will sponsor 18national teams, including Great Britain’s and Germany’s.”  adidas Global Sports Marketing Head MikeRiehl said the new focus is “all about brand positioning and our claim tobe the Olympic brand” (FINANCIALTIMES, 11/10).


A LIGHTER BUZZ

Duringthe news segment of Saturday’s edition of NBC’s “SNL,” castmember JimmyFallon reported, “Kenyan runners swept the top three spots in Sunday’s NewYork City Marathon.  Meanwhile, the topthree spots in the Kenya Marathon were swept by Ed Koch, GeorgeSteinbrenner and Woody Allen” (“SNL,” NBC, 11/8).


TONIGHT’S EVENTS

WTACEO Larry Scott will host a 6:00pm PT news conference to deliver his “State ofthe Game” speech at Staples Center in L.A.

QVCwill broadcast a one-hour program live at 7:00pm ET from the upper concourse ofthe Joyce Center on Notre Dame’s campus to commemorate the 75thanniversary of Knute Rockne’s famous “Win One for the Gipper”speech.  The show will feature NotreDame trademarked products, including autographed items and brand new productscreated specifically for this telecast.

U.S.Soccer will announce the winners of the “Best Soccer Promotion,” “Best GamePerformance (Player)” and “Best Game Performance (Team).”  The MLS Columbus Crew are looking to earnback-to-back honors for their “Buck-a-Brat Night.”  Competing against the Crew are the A-League Cincinnati Ladyhawks,the U.S. men’s national team, the PDL Des Moines Menace and the A-League’sMilwaukee Wave United.

TheSpurs will retire former C David Robinson’s No. 50 jersey following theteam’s 7:00pm CT game against the Jazz at SBC Center.  Robinson will become the fourth player in franchise history tohave his jersey retired.
