CHARGERS TODAY AGREE TO EXTEND NEGOTIATING PERIOD

TheChargers today agreed with the city of San Diego’s request to extend theexisting negotiating period until May 1, 2004. Chargers Special Counsel Mark Fabiani said in a statement: “Fivehundred and three days ago the Chargers began our efforts to find a publiclyacceptable way to keep the Chargers and the Super Bowl a continuing part of theSan Diego community.  We have been working hard to negotiate with the cityfor the past five months.  As the Chargers agree to this extension, wehope that the City will work with us to deliver significant, visible progressto the people of San Diego in the very near future” (Chargers).


CITGO BASSMASTER CLASSIC AVERAGES 425,000 HHs ON ESPN, ESPN2

ESPNtoday reported that the three telecasts of the Citgo Bassmaster Classic thispast weekend on ESPN and ESPN2 averaged 425,000 HHs, a 44% increase over lastyear’s average of 296,000 HHs, also for three telecasts.  The final day’s program, Sunday on ESPN,earned a 0.7/ (632,998 HHs) Nielsen cable rating, a 40% increase from lastyear’s 0.5/ (431,495 HHs), also on ESPN (ESPN).


GRIDIRON CLASSIC TO BEPLAYED IN RETIREMENT COMMUNITY IN ‘04

TheAP reports that the Gridiron Classic college football all-star game will movefrom the 70,188-seat Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium to The Villages, a retirementcommunity 40 miles from Orlando. Bleachers will be “erected on the community’s two polo fieldsto accommodate 10,000-20,000 fans.” Attendance for the game, which pits players with FL roots against therest of the nation, “has dropped every year, bottoming out at 9,375 lastJanuary.”  The Villages becomes thegame’s title sponsor, replacing Rotary Int’l, which will remain as a secondarysponsor (AP,8/6).

SportingNews this week offers four regional covers previewing the college footballseason.  Auburn RB Carnell Williams,Ohio St. QB Craig Krenzel and Michigan QB John Navarre, OklahomaDT Tommie Harris and USC WR Mike Williams are featured on thecovers.

SportsIllustrated this week offers its college football preview, featuring Krenzel onthe cover next to the magazine’s preseason top ten.

TheFalcons today announced that all four of the team’s preseason games will betelecast in Spanish on Comcast Sports Southeast and the team’s dedicateddigital channel on the carrier, FalconsVision. Arley Londono and Willi Martinez will serve as theannouncers (Falcons).

ESPNtoday announced that the Sportvision-developed “1st & Ten” linewill be utilized during every NFL and NCAA football game on ESPN and ESPN2during the upcoming seasons, a total of more than 160 games (ESPN).

Golfapparel and accessories manufacturer Page & Tuttle today announced that it hasjoined the PGA Exchange, the official online wholesale buying Web sitefor PGA professionals (Page & Tuttle).

FLW Outdoors today announced that Land O’ Lakes has renewed itssponsorship of its tournament trails, including entitlement of the Angler ofthe Year award (FLW Outdoors).

Youthmarketing agency MASEV Communications Int’l today announced that the Blue Jayshave retained the agency to help develop the club’s youth marketing strategy (MASEV).
