"confirmed it had secured 53.46% voting control of the listed company, Brisbane Broncos Ltd., effectively dealing Singleton a knockout blow" (DOW JONES, 3/4).

Meanwhile, News Corp. said today that it "had seen a broad pick-up in its U.S. advertising, with growth of 4-5 percent so far this year."  News Corp.'s President & COO Peter Chernin: "We have certainly seen an uptick in most of our U.S. advertising in the first quarter … but it is important to put this in perspective.  We have seen 4-5 percent growth in that quarter.  It is really positive to see growth after so many months of consecutive falls, but U.S. advertising has not grown enough to make up for the downturn" (REUTERS, 3/4).
