 ESPN.com reports that the NFL said today that a decision on whether or not to make up this week’s lost games would not be made "until Tuesday at the earliest." Sources say that "the prevailing sentiment is to play a full season with a truncated playoff schedule" (ESPN.com, 9/14).  

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from next week’s Lancome Trophy event in Paris after Tuesday’s terrorist attacks. Woods: "I don’t believe this is an appropriate time to play competitive golf" (AP, 9/14).

The NYRA announced this afternoon that there will be no racing at Belmont Park this weekend. NYRA President & COO Terry Meyocks: "'We thought it was best for the community, our patrons, the horsemen and our employees to cancel racing this weekend." There were three stakes scheduled for Saturday and two for Sunday (AP, 9/14).

The Avalanche honored the U.S. terrorist victims by pausing for three minutes during a closed practice Friday in Sweden. The Avalanche will play the Swedish Elite team Byrnas on Sunday (AP, 9/14).


CANCELLATIONS, POSTPONEMENTS AND NOTICES

The WISL Sacramento Knights canceled Friday’s "Meet the Knights" event and postponed games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (THE DAILY)….The Coyotes have canceled their "Taste of Hockey" event that had been scheduled for Saturday at the America West Arena (THE DAILY)….After postponing games on Wednesday and Thursday, UEFA will resume play this weekend (AP, 9/14).

The Capitals will hold an intrasquad game on Saturday morning at 11:00am ET that is free to the public (THE DAILY)….The Predators will hold a free intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday and collect donations for the American Red Cross (THE DAILY)….The Coyotes will kick off ticket sales for preseason and regular season games on Saturday (THE DAILY).


FINANCIAL NEWS

N.Y. Mayor Rudy Giuliani said this afternoon that he would try to open as much of the city's Wall Street financial district "as possible" by Monday. Giuliani: "We're going to try very hard to open up as much of it as possible" (AP, 9/14).

Nike has postponed its annual shareholder meeting that was scheduled for Monday in Portland, ME. It will now take place on Friday, September 21, in Portland, OR. Nike spokesperson Leslye Munday said the changes "were made partly because of travel disruptions and financial market closures this week" (AP, 9/14).

Vail Resorts is postponing its Q4 earnings release and conference call scheduled for September 17 for at least a week in light of the recent national tragedy (THE DAILY).
