COMCAST ACQUIRES CONTROLLING INTEREST IN THE GOLF CHANNEL

Comcast Corp. announced today that it has completed the previously announced acquisition of a controlling interest in The Golf Channel from Fox Cable Networks Group. Comcast increased its equity ownership position in The Golf Channel from approximately 60% to 92% (THE DAILY).


SAINTS MARKETING CARAVAN STOPS IN MOBILE

The Mobile REGISTER reports that the Saints "regional marketing pitch will bring a few of the team’s stars to Mobile tonight." The caravan is the Saints’ "first in more than five years." Among those participating are Coach Jim Haslett, GM Randy Mueller, WR Joe Horn and RB Deuce McAllister (Mobile REGISTER, 6/12).


FILA BECOMES OFFICIAL SUPPLIER OF FERRARI’S F-1 TEAM

Fila and Ferrari announced today that they have entered into a three-year licensing agreement where Fila will develop and sell sportswear apparel products bearing the Ferrari brand name. The partnerships allows Fila to become an official supplier of Ferrari/Marlboro, providing on-track and off-track uniforms to the F1 team. Fila will develop two different collections; the "Ferrari Collection," an exclusive line, and the "Tifosi Collection," a complete merchandising line (THE DAILY).


NFL ANNOUNCES FIRST-EVER PRIMETIME PLAYOFF GAMES

The NFL announced that this year’s late regular-season Saturday afternoon games and Saturday playoff games will be revised to make those national telecasts available to a wider audience. The Saturday playoff games will start at 4:30 and 8:00 PM ET, compared to 12:30 and 4:00 PM ET in previous years. The regular season Saturday games will start at 1:30 and 5:00 PM ET, after being televised at 12:30 and 4:00 PM ET previously (THE DAILY)

Game Three of the NBA Finals received a 12.7/22 national Nielsen rating, a 17% increase from last year’s Game Three viewership. Overall, this year’s Finals ratings are up 18% from the first three games from ’00 (THE DAILY)….NBC will present 17 hours of live coverage over four days for the U.S. Open. NBC tower reporter Gary Koch has qualified to play in the tournament, and will both play and broadcast the 101st edition (THE DAILY)….Kings GM Dave Taylor has been selected The Hockey News’ NHL Executive of the Year (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 6/12)….Former ISC Director of Corporate Partnerships Bruce Mosley has joined Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates as VP (THE DAILY)….The NSGA reports that retail sales of athletic and sports footwear grew 4% in ’00 with sales of $13B (THE DAILY).
