MLB inks WM as sustainability partner

MLB has signed WM as its first-ever sustainability sponsor in a deal that includes the environmental solutions provider serving as the presenting sponsor of the league’s Earth Day campaign. The sponsorship designates WM as the official sustainability partner of MLB. WM, formerly known as Waste Management, will also provide sustainability advisory services to the league’s clubs, during MLB jewel events and to the league office and its facilities.

MLB recently earned evergreen status from the Council for Responsible Sport for its efforts during 2023 MLB All-Star Week at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. In years past, MLB consistently earned gold status, which is the second-highest level granted by the council.

MLB today also announced that the Blue Jays are the recipient of the 2023 Green Glove Award, which recognizes the club that demonstrates outstanding commitment to diverting waste from landfills at their ballpark. Additionally, MLB added three new sustainability award honors for clubs this year, including the Power Pitch Award, for the MLB ballpark that demonstrates exemplary efforts in preserving power and energy; the H2O Home Run Award, which recognizes the club that has demonstrated exceptional dedication and achievement in reducing its water usage from the previous year; and the Eco-Slugger Innovation Award, an honor given to the club that demonstrates outstanding efforts in implementing environmentally sustainable practices and initiatives.

The inaugural winners for these awards include: the Phillies (Power Pitch Award); the Dodgers (H2O Home Run Award); and the Giants (Eco-Slugger Innovation Award).
